McConico scores 30; Battle sets record but Bulldogs lose at Ga. State

ATLANTA -- It was a career night Wednesday for three Bulldogs - including a school Division I record performance - but it wasn't enough as Alabama A&M fell at Georgia State 94-79.

Rakiya Battle, league's assists leader the past two seasons, set a school Division I record with 15 assists in the game. The old mark was 14, held by Trant Simpson since 2007.

Quinterian McConico poured in a career-high 30 points and pulled down 10 rebounds for his second double-double of the year. He led both teams Wednesday in scoring and rebounding.

Christopher Thomas hit for 17 points, a career high, and had 9 rebounds as he just missed a double-double.

De'Ederick Petty scored 13 points and Matthew Cotton added 10 for the Bulldogs.

The Panthers jumped out to a 11-0 lead in the first four minutes and widened the margin to 18-4 with 14:43 to play in the half.

However, the Bulldogs nibbled away at the lead, thanks to a 18-6 run to pull within 24-22 at the 6:38 mark.

That was as close as A&M would get, though, as Georgia State took a 43-34 lead into the intermission.

In the second half, the Panthers built a 22-point lead three times, the latest was 65-43 with 12:52 left in the game.

The Bulldogs eventually got within 10 points at 89-79 with 1:25 left, but that was as close as they would get.

A&M returns to action Dec. 22 at Bowling Green (Ohio) State.
