Battle scores 24 but Bulldogs fall late to Tennessee Tech

HUNTSVILLE -- Rakiya Battle had a career high 24 points but the Bulldogs weren't able to hold on Saturday in a 79-74 loss to Tennessee Tech.

It was the season home debut for A&M which had three players in double figures.

Battle hit 8 of 16 from the field - including a pair of three-pointers - and was 6 of 7 from the line.

Tracey Burnett scored 12 points and Matthew Cotton added 11 for A&M.

The Bulldogs came out hot in the first 20 minutes, shooting 63 percent from the field to take a 35-33 lead at the intermission - highlighted by a Battle three-pointer with 15 seconds left.

The Golden Eagles trailed much of the second half and put on a run late, taking the lead for good at 64-63 with 3:53 to play.

With 1:07 left, Tennessee Tech held a 75-71 lead but Battle hit an And-1 jump shot to cut the lead to 75-74 with 45 seconds left.

But that would be as close as A&M would get.

The Bulldogs return to action Dec. 10 at Troy. They return to Elmore Gym on Jan. 2 to host Jackson State in the Southwestern Athletic Conference opener.
