Softball falls 4-2 in extra inning against Jacksonville State

JACKSONVILLE, AL---The AAMU softball team fell short 4-2 in the eighth inning Thursday evening as Jacksonville State battled past the Lady Bulldogs, in the single game in Jacksonville, AL.  

A&M got off to an early lead, scoring two runs in the opening inning.

Kia Lang had the first hit of the game with a double to left field at the top of the first inning. The Lady Bulldogs scored their first run of the game in the first after Brandi Foreman hit a double to right field which scored Lang. The only other run for the Lady Bulldogs was also scored in the first inning when Sierra Smith hit a sacrifice bunt to the pitcher scoring Foreman.

Emily Lipinski started on the mound for A&M and she pitched very well holding the Lady Gamecocks scoreless in the first three innings. Jacksonville State scored their first two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning off a homerun to tie the game 2-2.

Both teams were scoreless in the fifth, sixth, and seventh inning, which pushed the game into an extra inning. The Lady Bulldogs were kept quiet in the eighth inning, but Jacksonville State made its move in the bottom of the eighth with the second homer of the game to secure the 4-2 victory.

The Lady Bulldogs will travel to Pulaski, TN on Monday, April 18 to face Martin Methodist in a doubleheader. The first pitch is set for 4 P.M.
