Bulldogs roll to 8-3 win over Alcorn State

LORMAN, Miss. -- Powered by a four-run third inning and a six-hit complete game from Josh Burchell, the Bulldogs rolled to an 8-3 win Saturday over Alcorn State.

The win evened the three-game series at one game apiece; the rubber game is at 1 p.m. Sunday.

With the win, A&M (6-11 SWAC, 11-33) pulls to within 2 1/2 games of Jackson State (8-8, 23-20) for third place in the SWAC East. The Bulldogs are 3 1/2 games ahead of fifth-place Mississippi Valley State (4-16, 6-29).

In picking up the win, Burchell completed his league-high fourth game this season and he improves to 3-6.

Though he had three runs batted in, O'Reel was hitless on the night. He drove in two runs on a pair of sacrifice flies and when he reached base on an error.

The Bulldogs trailed 1-0 after two innings and exploded for four runs in the third on just one hit - a Tanner Ivey single. A&M took advantage of three walks and one hit batter in the inning.

They also scored a run in the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh innings to wrap up the win.
