Lady Bulldogs fall to Texas Southern in tourney opener

IRONDALE, Ala. -- The Lady Bulldogs scored the first run of the game but it wasn't enough in the opener of the Southwestern Athletic Conference Softball Tournament.

A&M fell to Texas Southern 9-1 in five innings in the first round game Wednesday at Shea Brothers Softball Complex in Irondale, Ala..

The Lady Bulldogs will take on Prairie View at 5 p.m. Thursday in a losers bracket game. The game can be viewed on Live Stats at the Tournament Central Page of swac.org.

Imani Largin and Kia Lang opened the game with back-to-back singles, with Largin advancing to third on Lang's hit.

After Lang was thrown out at second on an attempted steal, Viridiana Ramos walked. Tiana Sanders then struck out and Largin scored when the catcher couldn't hold onto the ball.

The top-seeded Lady Tigers answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning for a 2-1 lead.

A&M left the bases loaded in the third inning and it proved costly as Texas Southern scored twice in the bottom of the inning for a 4-1 lead. m

The fourth inning saw the Lady Tigers score four runs to put the game out of reach and then the final run in the fifth inning led to the run rule win.

Largin and Lang each had two hits for the Lady Bulldogs.
