Bulldogs fall in Magic City Diamond Classic

BIRMINGHAM -- Cornelius Woods' RBI double highlighted the Bulldogs' fourth inning Friday in a 14-2 loss to Alabama State in the Magic City Diamond Classic at Rickwood Field.

The classic this year was one game at the historic Birmingham ballpark, unlike last year's three-game series won by the Bulldogs, also at Rickwood Field.

A&M and the Hornets will complete their SWAC season with games Saturday and Sunday at Alabama State.

The Bulldogs are in fourth place in the SWAC East Division but, with a pair of wins in Montgomery, can move into third place.

With A&M trailing 4-0 in the fourth inning, Tanner Ivey and Nolan Ramsey hit back-to-back singles.Woods then ripped a shot to the fence in right-center field, scoring Ivey and Ramsey advancing to third.

One out later, Ty Russell laced a single past the ASU first baseman to drive Ramsey home, cutting the Hornets' lead to 4-2. However, that was all the Bulldogs would score.

For the Bulldogs, freshman E.J. Watson went 1-for-3 in front of his hometown crowd.
