Hornets rally late to sting Bulldogs

MONTGOMERY -- The Bulldogs were pushing Alabama State to the limit in a tight game Sunday before the Hornets scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth for a 9-4 win.

A&M had taken a 2-1 lead in the second inning on Cornelius Woods' fourth home run of the season and Eric Yarbrough's RBI single. Yarbrough drove home Ryan Thrasher, who had doubled to centerfield.

ASU, which was unbeaten in SWAC play, tied the game in the bottom of the second inning.

But in the top of the third, Nolan Ramsey's groundout RBI brought home Carlton Peppers with the go-ahead run.

The Hornets scored twice in the fifth inning with two outs to regain the lead at 4-3.

The Bulldogs bounced back in the sixth inning when Thrasher laced a one-out double down the left-field line. One out later,  J.T. O'Reel singled to score Thrasher with the game-tying run.

However the Hornets took the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth and then provided the final margin with their four-run eighth.

Thrasher led the A&M offense with a pair of doubles among his three hits, Peppers also had a double and O'Reel singled twice.

The Bulldogs close out the regular season Tuesday at Tennessee-Martin. The game can be viewed on Live Stats at
