Lady Bulldogs drop soccer season opener

HUNTSVILLE -- Mercer broke open a tight match against the Lady Bulldogs with a four-goal second half Friday in a season-opening 6-0 win. It was the season-opener for both teams.

Mercer outshot Alabama A&M 27-8 with Lady Bulldogs goalkeeper Alexandra Desgagne coming up with 9 saves on 15 shots on goal. The Lady Bulldogs had 8 shots - 6 on goal.

Estelle Esperance had four shots - two on goal. With 20 minutes left in the first half, she took a lead pass from Caroline Drydek and fired a shot but Mercer goalkeeper Christina Mursuli made a diving catch to make the save.

The Lady Bulldogs had another chance when Esperance and Alexus Lawson had a two-on-none break but a Mercer defender came back to break up the play.

A&M returns to action Sunday at Tennessee-Chattanooga.
