Texas Southern defeats Bulldogs

HOUSTON, Texas -- The Bulldogs ran into a tall, veteran Texas Southern team in a 92-47 loss Monday.

The Tigers, the SWAC's top-scoring team, led from the opening basket as they ran their record to 8-1 in the conference. The Bulldogs are 1-8.

Quinterian McConico led the Bulldogs with 12 points and Evan Wiley scored 10.

Rakiya Battle had seven assists while McConico and Mohamed Sherif each pulled down five rebounds.

Texas Southern's Marvin Jones, a 7-foot senior, and Stephan Bennett, a 6-10 senior, dominated the boards  with each collecting 11 rebounds as the Tigers outrebounded A&M 45-24. Jones also had four blocked shots.

SWAC scoring-leader Zach Lofton scored 21 points for the Tigers.

The Bulldogs return to action Saturday when Mississippi Valley State visits Elmore Gym. Tipoff is 6 p.m.
