HOUSTON, Texas -- The Lady Bulldogs got off to a slow start Monday but, after warming up, they went toe-to-toe with first-place Texas Southern.

But the Lady Tigers were just too strong at the end and held off a scrappy A&M team 60-51.

The Lady Bulldogs weren't intimidated by the SWAC's top-scoring team and top defensive team as they pushed Texas Southern to the final horn.

Lauren McKee had a season-high 22 points, including hitting 5-of-10 from three-point range.

Hilary Williams scored 14 points and Jameica Cobb had a team-high 9 rebounds.

Texas Southern pulled out to a 56-42 lead with 4:27 to go when the Lady Bulldogs put on a last-ditch push.

McKee hit three straight three-pointers to pull A&M within 58-51, but that was as close as the Lady Bulldogs would get.

A&M got on the board first with a basket by Cobb at 9:12, but Texas Southern went on a run to take a 21-8 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The Lady Bulldogs warmed up in the second quarter, outscoring Texas Southern 19-13, capped by Courtney Eggleston's jump shot. TSU went into the intermission with a 34-27 lead.

A&M will be back at home Saturday to take on Mississippi Valley State. Tipoff is 4 p.m.
