HUNTSVILLE --The Alabama A&M women's basketball team suffered a 58-52 loss against Mississippi Valley State on Saturday at T.M. Elmore Gym.

The loss dropped the Lady Bulldogs to 2-17 on the season and 0-10 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference. The Devilettes, meanwhile, moved to 9-12 overall and 6-4 in conference play.

Trailing five points with 8:34 remaining in the second quarter, the Lady Bulldogs appeared to rally from a slow start with a 7-2 run to tie the game at 16. Freshman Juliette Akinwole pulled A&M within a possession via a layup. After a steal by junior Hilary Williams, freshman Jameica Cobb drove in for the layup to make it 16-16 with 6:25 on the clock. The Devilettes responded back with a three before heading into halftime with a 21-19 lead.

In the third quarter, the Devilettes came out strong offensively with a 6-2 run. The Lady Bulldogs answered with six back-to-back points to cut Valley's lead to one, 29-28. Down 32-33 with 4:47 remaining on the clock, a free-throw shot by Cobb would tie the game at 33. The teams would continue to trade points and tie once more at 35.

The Devilettes found a rhythm with two minutes remaining in the third and went up five off a three-pointer and jumper. Cobb secured a jumper for the Lady Bulldogs before Valley closed the third quarter out with a 42-37 lead.

In the final stanza, the Devilettes went up by as many as seven with three minutes remaining. McKee secured three shots from behind the charity strip followed by a three-pointer from Williams to cut Valley's lead by two with 20 seconds remaining. The Devilettes, however, took the upper hand after two free-throw shots to secure the victory.

Cobb had 15 points and four rebounds, while McKee added nine points and four boards. Senior Ebony Johnson led the team with 13 rebounds and contributed eight points for the Lady Bulldogs. Williams scored five points and led the team with five assists.
