HUNTSVILLE --- Despite a game-high 18 points from Josta Totten, the Alabama A&M women's basketball team was not able to overcome Arkansas-Pine Bluff at T.M. Elmore Gym as the Lady Bulldogs dropped a 65-55 decision Monday evening.

After shooting 32 percent in the loss against Mississippi Valley on Saturday night, the Lady Bulldogs (2-18, 01-11) connected 45 percent of their shots against the Lady Lions. UAPB (9-13, 6-5) shot 38 percent. The Lady Bulldogs led in rebounds with 30 compared to UAPB's 28.

Also scoring in double figures was Juliette Akinwole with 12 points and Jameica Cobb added 10 points for the Lady Bulldogs. Hilary Williams and Akinwole each tied with six rebounds followed by five boards from Lauren McKee. Ebony Johnson led A&M with seven assists.

Trailing 11-12 in the first quarter, Totten secured a three point basket to take a 14-12 lead with 1:27 on the clock. The Lady Lions responded with two three-pointers to take a four point lead before Akinwole secured a layup for A&M to cut UAPB's lead to two at the end of the quarter.

AAMU would get within two points on two occasions in the second quarter, and went on a 9-7 run with a minute remaining, but was never able to pull even. UAPB closed the half with a layup to take a 33-28 lead heading into halftime.

After the Lady Lions took its largest lead --- 42-32- with 5:40 on the clock in the third quarter, the Lady Bulldogs responded with a 10-1 run to cut UAPB's lead to one.

With the Lady Bulldogs down four points with 52 seconds remaining in the quarter, Alisha Davis made a 10-foot jumper and was sent to the charity strip. Davis hit her free-throw to move the score to 48-47 at the end of the third quarter.

To open the fourth quarter, Johnson was 2-2 from the free-throw line to take a 49-48 lead for the Lady Bulldogs. However, the Lady Lions responded with a three-pointer to regain a two point lead.

A layup from Johnson with 6:42 remaining in the game, put A&M trailing UAPB by one. However, that was as close as the Lady Bulldogs would get as UAPB went on a 14-4 run in the remaining five minutes of the game to extend their lead.

The Lady Bulldogs return to the court Saturday, February 11, as they travel to Alabama State to face the Lady Hornets. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m.
