Montgomery-- A slow start was too much to overcome for the Alabama A&M women's basketball team as the Lady Bulldogs fell 65-35 to Alabama State Saturday afternoon in Dunn-Oliver Acadome in Montgomery, AL.
Freshman guard Jameica Cobb led the Lady Bulldogs (2-19) with 18 points and six rebounds, while forward senior Ebony Johnson contributed six points and three rebounds. Junior guard Hilary Williams led the team with four steals and added four boards for the Lady Bulldogs.Â
A combination of a hot-shooting Alabama State (10-12) team and a tough shooting day by A&M set the tone early as the Lady Hornets shot 30.8 percent (4-for-13) from the field in the first quarter and led 14-5 after the opening 10 minutes.
The Lady Hornets finished the contest shooting 41.7 percent (20-for-48) from the field, while the Lady Bulldogs shot 24.5 percent (20-for-48) for the game.
Opening the second half, the Lady Bulldogs continued to battle but it wasn't enough as Alabama State extended their lead to as many as 25 to end the third quarter with a 47-24 lead.
