Lady Bulldogs Battle UAPB, Fall 61-57

PINE BLUFF, Ark. --- The Alabama A&M women's basketball team lost a 61-57 hard fought battle to University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff Monday night despite its second half surge. The Lady Bulldogs were led by Jameica Cobb who scored 21-points which included 5-of-6 from the charity stripe.
 
With the loss, the Lady Bulldogs fall to 2-11 on the season while the Lady Lions improve to 4-10.

Besides Cobb, Alabama A&M had two other players reach double figures – senior Ebony Johnson (12) and freshman Lauren McKee (10). Johnson also led the Lady Bulldogs defensively with eight rebounds.

The Lady Bulldogs got off to a slow start in the first half, falling behind 7-0 to start the game. The Lady Bulldogs got on the board after a jumper from freshman Juliette Akinwole at 5:33 in the first quarter. AAMU went on a quick 2-0 run to tie the game, 7-7, after a 3-pointer and layup from senior Josta Totten. After that, both teams traded baskets which resulted in three lead changes.

With 1:44 remaining in the second quarter, the Lady Bulldogs went on a 7-2 run to take a 23-18 lead into halftime. UAPB regained its confidence and began to battle back to open the second half with a 16-1 in order to take a 35-25 lead over AAMU. However, AAMU cut the Lady Lions 10-point lead to seven at the end of the third with help from Cobb, McKee, Johnson and Totten.

The Lady Bulldogs continued to compete in the fourth quarter, eventually tying the game at 48 with 4:24 remaining after a three-pointer from McKee. A layup and jumper from Cobb allowed AAMU to regain a two point lead with 2:51 on the clock.  The Lady Bulldogs held a 55-54 lead with 01:35 remaining in the game, but UAPB scored six of the final eight points to capture the 61-57 win.  

The Lady Bulldogs return home to face Alabama State in T.M. Elmore Gym at 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
