Gooden goal lifts Lady Bulldogs past UAPB

PINE BLUFF, Ark. -- Ayanna Gooden scored midway through the second half to lift Alabama A&M to a 2-1 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

The win was the Lady Bulldogs' first conference victory as they improve to 1-5. UAPB falls to 1-4-1 in the SWAC.

Gooden's goal, her fourth this season, came at the 66:42 mark of the game and broke a 1-1 tie.

A&M jumped out early when Daijah DeRamus scored her fifth goal in as many games with the Lady Bulldogs. Her score came just 42 seconds into the match.

The Golden Lions tied the score 33 minutes later.

Goalkeeper Jodi Medina, who came into the game with a .790 save percentage - good for second in the SWAC, had five saves. She was 10th in the nation and second in the conference with 94 saves before Friday's match.

The Lady Bulldogs continue their western swing with a match Sunday at first-place Grambling State. Kickoff is noon.
