Lady Bulldogs host pair of weekend matches

HUNTSVILLE -- As the season winds down, the Alabama A&M women's soccer team finds itself with an outside chance of qualifying for the SWAC Tournament.

And, the Lady Bulldogs close out the regular season with three straight home games.

Going into the final three games, A&M is in 10th place but, at 1-6-0, the Lady Bulldogs are just three points behind seventh-place Mississippi Valley State (2-4-1) and one point behind Arkansas-Pine Bluff (1-5-1). The top eight teams qualify for the SWAC Tournament on Nov. 2-5 at Prairie View A&M.

The quest for the tournament continues this weekend when Southern and Jackson State visit Bulldogs Field.

The Lady Bulldogs (1-6-0) host Southern (0-5-1) at 3 p.m. Friday. Then, on Sunday, Jackson State (2-2-2) visits for a 1 p.m. match.

A&M wraps up the season next Thursday at 3 p.m. with a home match against intrastate rival Alabama State.

Leading the drive are a pair of Lady Bulldogs among the league leaders in goalkeeping and scoring.

Goalkeeping Jodi Medina is third in the SWAC in save percentage (.779), saves (95) and saves per game (6.79).

On offense, newcomer Daijah DeRamus has made an immediate impact for Head Coach Emanuel Stephens.

In just six games for the Maroon & White, DeRamus has scored five goals and has taken an average of 4.17 shots per game. Her goals per game (0.83) and shots per game would lead the SWAC, but she doesn't have enough appearances for an official statistic.

However, that won't slow down A&M in its drive to reach the tournament.
