Volleyball Blanks Jackson State, 3-0

JACKSON, Miss.--- The Alabama A&M University women's volleyball team topped Jackson State in three-straight sets, 3-0, with game scores of 25-15, 25-16, 25-22 Sunday afternoon in Jackson, Miss.

Alabama A&M's (8-14, 8-1 SWAC) offense was led by freshman Syretha Pride who recorded 11 kills, while sophomore Mikel Coleman chipped in 11 kills. Helena Figueiredo registered 11 assists and seven digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lady Bulldogs gained an early 14-7 lead in the first set and Jackson State were unable to battle back as AAMU rallied to win the set, 25-15.

AAMU continued to dominate offensively in the second set, starting off with an early 7-2 lead. Jackson State would come back to cut the deficit to three, 10-7, but the Lady Bulldogs would extend their lead by eight points, 17-9, after another 7-2 run.

The two teams would continue to trade points the remainder of the set, but the Lady Tigers were only able to cut the deficit to six as a match point kill by Meredith Sieck would allow the Lady Bulldogs to claim the second set, 25-16.

The final set toggled back-and-forth, as there were five lead changes and 10 ties. AAMU tied the game at 16, and ran with a rally 11-4 to win the set, 25-22, and secure the match.

AAMU continues play on Tuesday, October 10 as they host Jacksonville State at 7p.m. in Elmore Gym for their annual think pink game. Fans are encouraged to wear pink.
