JACKSON, M.S.---The Alabama A&M women's volleyball team began their 2017 postseason on the road Friday evening, losing to the sixth seeded Prairie View A&M by the final score of 3-0 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference quarterfinals.
Terra Brooks led AAMU with 10 kills, Mikel Coleman added five kills while Jaelin Gant contributed four kills. Meredith Sieck dished out 20 assists, and Cierra Davis collected 11 digs.
The Lady Bulldogs began the match by taking an early 4-2 in the first set. Prairie View responded with a 6-0 run to bring the score to 8-4, but the Lady Bulldogs were able to start a run of their own while gaining a 14-13 lead over the Panthers. The two teams continued to trade points as they saw three lead changes. Tied at 22, Prairie View was able to put up three kills to take the set, 25-22.
In the second set, Prairie View jumped off to a 13-6 lead. Trailing by seven, the Lady Bulldogs went on a 6-2 scoring run which included a kill each from Brooks, Oliver and Gant. The teams would continue to trade points as the Panthers took a 23-20 lead. Following a Prairie View Kill, Alabama A&M scored four consecutive points to take a 24-23 lead. The Panthers called a timeout before dishing out two kills and forcing an attack error to win the second set 26-24.
Prairie View carried their momentum over from the second set to the third, taking an early 14-5 lead. The Lady Bulldogs would try to battle back but it wasn't enough as Prairie View extended their lead, wining the third set 25-15 and the match 3-0.
The Lady Bulldogs finished the 2017 season 14-19 overall and 14-4 in SWAC matches.
