BIRMINGHAM---The Alabama A&M men's basketball team (0-11) dropped a 90-58 decision to UAB (7-4) on Saturday Afternoon at the Birmingham Jam inside of Legacy Arena.
Senior Guard Julian Walters, in his second appearance of the season, led the team across the board with 15 points, six boards, five assists and four steals. Classmate Marcus Merriweather added 12 points and three assists, while Junior Andre Kennedy added eight points respectively. UAB was led by Nate Darling, who converted 14-of-17 for 20 points, while contributing six rebounds. Zack Bryant posted 14 points for the Blazers.
After falling behind 6-0 at the start, a jumper from Walters put the Bulldogs on the board. The Blazers went up 11-2 when Arthur Johnson hit a jumper to cut the deficit to seven. UAB would then respond with a 17-3 run to go up 21 points, 28-7, with 09:24 on the clock. The Bulldogs were able to get back within 16 after Walters drained a three-pointer with 8:19 remaining in the first half. However, the Blazers would continue to dominate offensively as they secured a 46-22 advantage at halftime.
The Bulldogs opened up the second half with on a 4-0 run after a dunk from Kennedy and layup from De'Ederick Petty. Although AAMU's momentum proved to be up, they were unable to keep up with the Blazer's pace as UAB secured the 90-58 victory.
In the second half, the Bulldogs shot 58.33 percent (14-of-24) compared to UAB's 57.14 percent (16-of-28).
AAMU heads to the University of Michigan on Thursday for an 8 p.m. (CT) tipoff.
