Men’s Basketball Topped by Austin Peay

CLARKSVILLE, TN--- The Alabama A&M University men's basketball team fell to Austin Peay, 67-47, in Clarksville, TN on Saturday afternoon at the Dunn Center.

The Bulldogs struggled on the offensive end shooting just 36 percent (14-of-39) from the field. They were 25 percent from behind the arc (3-of-12) and they were 67 percent (16-of-24 at the free throw line.

The Governors started the game off with a 7-2 lead, which was answered by a three-pointer from Marcus Merriweather with 16:34 on the Clock. Arthur Johnson drove into the basket for a layup to tie the game at seven. The Bulldogs were able to extend their lead after Arthur Kennedy added a right handed layup to put AAMU up 9-7. AAMU would then take a three-point lead, 12-9, after a jumper from Merriweather.

However, the Governors would respond by taking advantage of 11 Bulldog turnovers and were able to secure 13 points off of the turnovers. Trailing 30-13, Johnson broke the ice with a three-pointer after a Bulldogs scoring drought. The Bulldogs would make four free throw shots to cut the Governors lead to 10 points, 30-20, with 19.3 seconds on the clock.  The Bulldogs trailed by 12 points headed into the locker room.

In the second half, Austin Peay pushed their lead back to double digits and AAMU were unable to cut into the lead.

De'Ederick Petty led the Bulldogs in scoring with 10 points. Kennedy led the team with 11 rebounds and contributed seven points.

The loss drops the Bulldogs to 0-8 on the season.

The Bulldogs will now get to take a break for finals as their next game is December 11 at DePaul.
