Numbers game hits Bulldogs in loss to Southern

BATON ROUGE, LA -- The war of attrition has hit the Bulldogs' men's basketball team with a vengeance.

Dressing just nine players Saturday, there wasn't a lot of depth for Coach Willie Hayes against Southern University.

And, when Adrian Edwards and Mohamed Sherif got into foul trouble in the first half, Hayes wasn't able to give Qinterian McConico some time to catch his breath.

Southern pulled away in the second half Saturday night to a 77-64 win over the Bulldogs.

McConico scored 20 points and pulled down 7 rebounds in the loss. McConico hit 10 of 12 from the field for A&M.

De'Ederick Petty chipped in with 15 points though hitting just 4 of 13 shots from the field.

The Bulldogs struggled from beyond the arc, as well, Saturday hitting just 3 of 13 attempts.

Southern also capitalized on A&M miscues by scoring 16 points off turnovers and 18 fast-break points.

The Bulldogs will visit Alcorn State on Monday for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff with the Braves.
