HUNTSVILLE -- Dalton Mitchell was 5-for-5 and the Bulldogs pounded out 13 hits but they came up short in a 6-4 loss Saturday to Mississippi Valley State.

The two teams will play 1 p.m. Sunday in the rubber game of the series at Bulldog Field.

This was the second straight game the Bulldogs had 13 hits - a season high.

A&M got on the board in the first inning Saturday when Carson McGregory doubled to left-center to score Carlton Peppers who had earlier singled.

The Delta Devils answered with a pair of runs in the top of the second to take a 2-1 lead.

In the A&M second, Mitchell drove in Pierre Brewton with the tying run on his single.

But MVSU took the lead for good on Jackson Webb's two-run home run in the top of the fourth.

The Delta Devils added two more runs in the top of the sixth to increase their lead to 6-2.

A&M rallied in the seventh inning, putting together three hits and taking advantage of a MVSU error.

With two outs, Mitchell singled to center to bring home Brandon Whitaker, who earlier reached on a fielder's choice. Peppers then doubled to score Mitchell for a 6-4 score. But, he was left at second.

The Bulldogs tried a comeback in the ninth with two outs and Whitaker on second.  Mitchell singled and Whitaker got caught in a rundown between third and home to end the inning.

Along with Mitchell, Peppers had a pair of hits, including a double, a run scored and an RBI and Pierre Brewton singled twice and scored a run.
