Lady Bulldogs Fall to Tennessee State in Doubleheader

HUNTSVILLE—The Alabama A&M softball team fell in a doubleheader to non-conference opponent Tennessee State 2-1 and 7-0 on Wednesday afternoon at the Lady Bulldog Field.

With the losses, the Lady Bulldogs drop to 13-27 overall and 6-7 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference.

In the first game, Danielle Hansell was walked with one out on the board for the Lady Bulldogs. Tiana Sanders then grounded to shortstop to advance Hansell to second. Viridiana Ramos earned one RBI after her single up the middle scored Hansell to take an early 1-0 lead.

The Lady Bulldogs were able to maintain their 1-0 lead and hold TSU scoreless for the first six innings. At the top of the seventh, a single to left field would allow the Tigers to tie the game at one and the Lady Bulldogs were unable to score in the bottom of the seventh, which forced an eighth inning.

TSU took a 2-1 lead in the top of eighth after a single through the left side. They were able to secure the first game after A&M was shutout in the last inning.

The Lady Bulldogs had three hits in the second game. Kia Lang, Lauren Walker and Eriel Lawson each had a hit.

Rachel Sanders (0-5) took the loss. She pitched all seven inning, surrendering seven runs in seven hits. She allowed only five walks.

The Lady Bulldogs play a non-conference doubleheader at Middle Tennessee State University on Tuesday, April 25. The first pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
