HUNTSVILLE, Ala.. - The Alabama A&M University softball team swept Jackson State on Saturday afternoon's senior day by scores of 13-4 and 6-0. Junior Imani Largin and Senior Caitlyn Hayden earned wins for each game. Both pitchers combined only allowed the Lady Tigers four hits on the day.
Before the doubleheader, the program recognized its four-member senior class: Brandi Foreman (Madison, AL), Caitlyn Hayden (New Market, AL), Eriel Lawson (Mobile, AL), and Viridiana Ramos (Carson, CA).
In game one, the Lady Bulldogs trailed 2-0 headed into the bottom of the first inning. Ariel Smith reached on a Lady Tigers error which advanced Danielle Hansell to third base to score Tamia Lee-Barbadillo. Down 2-1, Tiana Sanders doubled to right field before advancing to third on an error to score Hansell and Lawson to take a 3-2 lead.
In the bottom of the third, Lavarsha Thigpen singled to right center to score Ramos. A JSU error would then allow the Lady Bulldogs to steal bases and allow Foreman to score off of the error.
Up 5-2, A&M continued to capitalize on their momentum in the bottom of the third going up by as many as nine, which included a RBI single from Lawson and Foreman followed by a two RBI sacrifice fly from Ramos.
Up 11-2, Imani Largin closed out the third inning with a two RBI homer to score Jade Jackson.
The Lady Tigers added two more runs in the top of the fifth, but it wouldn't be enough as the Lady Bulldogs were able to secure the win and end the game in five innings.
Game two saw A&M jump out to a 4-0 lead after three innings. Smith singled to second base scoring Kia Lang in the first inning. In the second inning, Lang singled to right center to score Largin. Ramos would add the second homer of the day scoring Sanders.
In the bottom of the fifth, A. Smith singled to shortstop to advance Sanders to second and scoring Lang and Pozzi to take a 6-0 win over the Lady Tigers to sweep the series.
