Bulldogs drop series finale to Alcorn State

HUNTSVILLE -- The Bulldogs dropped their series finale Sunday against Alcorn State, 12-1 but still hold onto the third seed in the SWAC Baseball Tournament.


Alabama A&M is 9-12 in the Eastern Division, two games up on Alcorn State. The Bulldogs close out the season next weekend at Jackson State while the Braves host Alabama State in their regular season finale.


The Bulldogs need to win one game or a loss by Alcorn State will give A&M possession of third place and the right to place the Western Division second-place team in the first round of the tournament next month.


In Sunday's game, the Bulldogs got on the board first after Dalton Mitchell walked to lead off the A&M first and then stole second.


With one out, Carlton Peppers singled to left and Mitchell scored for the 1-0 lead.


However, that was the scoring for the day for A&M, despite having chances later on to push a run across. In the second inning, Cornelious Woods led off with a triple but didn't score after the Bulldogs were retired in order.


The Bulldogs close out their home schedule Wednesday when UT-Martin visits The Hill. First pitch is 3 p.m.
