HUNTSVILLE -- Brandon Whitaker drove in two runs on a pair of hits while Blaine Milam and Brandon Marsonek kept the Alabama State bats at bay most of the game Saturday.

However, the Hornets held off the Bulldogs 5-3. The two teams will play Sunday at 1 p.m. in their final matchup of the regular season.

The Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead on Carson McGregory's RBI single in the first inning.

After Alabama State scored twice in the fourth inning for a 2-1 lead, Carlton Peppers doubled in the bottom of the inning to tie the score at 2-2.

Alabama State's Gustavo Rio hit a bases-loaded double in the top of the fifth to put the Hornets back up 5-2. In the fourth inning, his two-run home run gave the Hornets their first lead at 2-1.

Joannes Diaz brought Whitaker home in the bottom of the fifth, but that was the final run of the game.

The Bulldogs would mount a threat in the bottom of the ninth, but were unable to put any runs across the plate.
