Peppers homers but Bulldogs fall at Lipscomb

NASHVILLE -- Carlton Peppers homered and Zeth Malcom and Wilanier Betancourt each had a pair of hits but the Bulldogs dropped a 9-4 decision Tuesday at Lipscomb.


Dalton Mitchell kept his on-base streak alive at 10 straight games with his double in the sixth inning.


The Bison scored five runs in the first inning Tuesday and never looked back in taking the win.


A&M got on the board in the fifth inning when Betancourt singled with two outs and moved to third on Cornelious Woods' double. Betancourt then scored on a wild pitch to cut Lipscomb's lead to 7-1.


In the sixth inning, Mitchell doubled and then advanced to third on a failed pickoff attempt. One out later, Peppers walked and Malcom singled up the middle to score Mitchell for a 7-2 score.


However, Lipscomb responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 9-2 lead.


The Bulldogs scored a run in the eighth on Mitchell's sacrifice fly that brought Woods home.


Peppers rounded out the scoring with his solo shot over the leftfield fence. It was his second home run of the season.


Brandon Marsonek pitched in the seventh and eighth innings, striking out four of the nine batters he faced to run his NCAA-leading strikeout total to 127.


The Bulldogs close out their regular season Wednesday at Belmont. First pitch is 5 p.m.
