McKee’s 27 Points Powers AAMU Over Alabama State, 78-69

MONTGOMERY, Ala. --- Alabama A&M University's Lauren McKee had a career-high 27 points to lead the Lady Bulldogs to their third straight Southwestern Athletic Conference win as they defeated Alabama State Lady Hornets (4-12, 2-3 SWAC), 78-69, on Saturday afternoon in the Dunn-Oliver Acadome.

McKee also recorded five rebounds, four steals and three assists in the win. Nigeria Jones scored 14 points and Natalie Collins added 11 points. Kanisha Tharpe lead the team in rebounds with eight and added seven points in the win.

Alabama A&M (8-8, 3-2 SWAC) shot 43 percent (25-58) from the field, 52 percent (9-17) from behind the arc and 83 percent (19-23) from the charity stripe. They forced 12 turnovers which resulted in four points.

Late in the first quarter the Lady Bulldogs had a stretch where they made nine of ten shots, which was part of an 9-0 run which gave them a 21-14 lead. Alabama A&M held the lead for the rest of the game.

The Lady Hornets saw their biggest and last lead at two points in the first quarter, while the Lady Bulldogs largest lead was 13 points with 44 seconds remaining in the game.
Alabama State was led by four players who had 12 points each.

The Lady Bulldogs will have a short break before they prepare for a two-game road stand against Alcorn State (Jan. 20) and Southern (Jan. 22).
