Bulldogs Fall to Prairie View, 88-67

HUNTSVILLE – Sophomore Evan Wiley tallied a team-high 16 points and Junior Arthur Johnson chipped in 12 points as the Alabama A&M University men's basketball team fell to visiting Prairie View A&M, 88-67, on Monday night at the Elmore Gym.

With the loss, the Bulldogs dropped to 2-20 overall and 2-6 in league play, while the Panthers improves to 8-15 and 5-4.

Gary Blackston paced Prairie View with a game-high 32 points and eight rebounds. Dennis Jones added 18 points and six assists, while Troy Thompson finished with 15 points and three rebounds.

The visitors shot 51.6 percent (32-for-62) from the field for the contest, while the Bulldogs finished at just 35.2 percent (9-for-54). Both teams grabbed 37 rebounds for the night.

Alabama A&M dominated strong offensively for an early 14-9 lead capped with a three pointer from Johnson. Down with 5:25 on the clock, Prairie View responded with a 16-2 run, which allowed them to take a 41-29 advantage into the locker room.  

It was much of the same in the second half as the Panthers widened the gap to 78-62 midway through and coasted the rest of the way to a victory.
  
The Bulldogs return to action for yet another league tilt when they travel to Pine Bluff, AR on Saturday to take on Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
