Three Bulldogs post double-figure scoring in loss at UAPB

PINE BLUFF, Ark.—The Alabama A&M University men's basketball team saw three players in double-figure scoring, but it was not enough as the Bulldogs fell to Arkansas-Pine Bluff, 80-62, Saturday evening at the H.O. Clemmons Arena.

With the loss, the Bulldogs drop to 2-21 overall and 2-8 in the SWAC, while the Golden Lions improve to 9-15 overall and 9-1 in league play.

Alabama A&M was unable to contain UAPB's guard Martaveous McKnight, as the junior posted a triple-double with 30 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. He was a one-man show in the opening stanza, keeping his team afloat with 19 points on 9-of-14 shooting.

After the Bulldogs cut The Golden Lions deficit to four, 10-6, early in the first half, Arkansas-Pine Bluff used a 12-3 run to break the game open and never trailed, using several scoring runs to stay ahead of the Bulldogs.

AAMU shot a 37.5 percent (21-of-56) from the field and 76.2 percent (16-for-21) at the free throw line. The Bulldogs were slightly out-rebounded 36-31, and turned the ball over 14 times, just two more than the Golden Lions.

Junior Arthur Johnson paced the Bulldogs with 19 points, to go along with six rebounds. Junior Andre Kennedy (16 points, 5 rebounds) and sophomore Evan Wiley (11 points, 3 rebounds) were the other two players in double-figure scoring for AAMU.

Trent Steen added 12 points for the Golden Lions, while Terrance Banyard contributed 10 points.

AAMU will look to get back on the winning track when they face MVSU on Monday, Feb. 5 in Itta Bena, MS. Tip is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
