Women’s Basketball Falls, 55-48, to Prairie View A&M

HUNTSVILLE – The Alabama A&M women's basketball team fell to the visiting Prairie View A&M Lady Panthers, 55-48, on Monday evening in Elmore Gym.

Natalie Collins led the Lady Bulldogs (8-12, 3-6 SWAC) with 12 points and added four rebounds. Nigeria Jones recorded eight points, while Ashlyn Dotson, Jameica Cobb and Kanisha Tharpe each contributed six points. Aubriana Bonner had a team-high eight rebounds.

As a team, the Lady Bulldogs shot 32.3 percent from the field, going 21-for-65 from the floor. From the 3-point range, the Lady Bulldogs were 4-for-16.

Shala Dobbins led the Lady Panthers (7-13, 5-4 SWAC) with a game-high 20 points and Dominique Newman contributed 16 points. La'Neique Presley grabbed 10 boards for PVAMU.

Jones got the Lady Bulldogs on the board first with a layup to tie the game at two. The teams would continue to trade points as Prairie View took a 16-15 lead into the second quarter. With 7:18 on the clock, Collins hit a three pointer to give the Lady Bulldogs a 20-18 lead. The teams would then see a tie at 22 before the Lady Panthers responded quickly, going on an 8-2 run to head into intermission with a 30-24 lead over the Lady Bulldogs.

In the second half, the Lady Bulldogs leaned heavily on Collins, who scored six of her 12 points after the break.  With 2:53 on the clock in the third quarter, Prairie View built a 15-point lead, 47-32, before Bonner's layup would cut their lead to 13 at the end of the quarter. The Lady Bulldogs held Prairie View to just eight points in the fourth quarter as a 11-6 run brought AAMU within five of the Lady Panthers. However, the late run wouldn't be enough as Prairie View came out with the 55-48 win.  
 
The Lady Bulldogs return to action Saturday, February 3 when they travel to Pine Bluff, AR, to take on Arkansas-Pine Bluff.  Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m.
