Lady Bulldogs Drop Road Contest at Jackson State

JACKSON, MISS--- The Alabama A&M women's basketball team was unable to rally back from a tough third quarter and fell to Jackson State Lady Tigers on the road, 59-43, on Wednesday Evening.

Jackson State scored the first seven points of the contest before the Lady Bulldogs got on the board on a jumper by Kanisha Tharpe followed by a layup from DeShawna Harper to bring Alabama A&M within three.  The Lady Tigers would increase its lead to 15-6 at the end of the first quarter after an 8-2 run.

The Lady Bulldogs completed a 13-2 run to take their first lead of the game, 19-17, with 5:23 on the clock in the second quarter. The teams would trade points while seeing three ties, with the last one being at 23 to send the teams into the locker room.

The Lady Tigers would open the third quarter on a 4-2 run to take a 27-23 lead, but Lauren McKee hit a three-pointer to allow the Lady Bulldogs to take a 28-27 lead.

Jackson State responded with a three-pointer of their own before going on a 16-7 run to take a ten-point lead, 46-36, headed into the fourth quarter. Alabama A&M never got closer than ten points for the remainder of the game.

Harper topped the Lady Bulldogs with 13 points. She also added two steals and one assist. Tharpe scored seven points and added a team-high seven rebounds. Jameica Cobb contributed six points on the night.

The Lady Bulldogs will host Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Saturday for a 4 p.m. tip-off.
