Women’s Basketball Races Past Delta Devilettes, 65-48

HUNTSVILLE, AL--- Alabama A&M women's basketball team picked up its second straight home win, defeating the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devilettes, 65-48, on Monday evening in Elmore Gym.

The Lady Bulldogs (7-8, 2-2 SWAC) never allowed the Delta Devilettes to take another lead after Nigeria Jones' free throw at 3:40 in the first quarter put the Lady Bulldogs ahead by one. From there, AAMU raced out to a 29-19 lead over MVSU (0-15, 0-3) by halftime.

Jameica Cobb, Lauren McKee and Jones each led the Bulldogs in scoring with 11 points. Cobb had a double-double as she added 12 rebounds and three assists. Kanisha Tharpe recorded a game-high 13 rebounds while adding six points, two assists, and two blocks.

AAMU outshot MVSU 42.6 percent to 29.8, but the Lady Bulldogs were limited to 3-of-19 (18.8 pct) from the 3-point range while shooting 67 percent from the free throw line. The Lady Bulldogs outrebounded Mississippi Valley State by 20 (44-24).

The Lady Bulldogs head to Alabama State on Saturday, January 13 for a 3 p.m. CT tip. A&M returns to Elmore Gym on January 27 to host Texas Southern.
