Austin Peay holds off Alabama A&M men's basketball

HUNTSVILLE — Chris Porter-Bunton paced Austin Peay with 16 points as the Governors held off Alabama A&M 73-61 Saturday night in a non-conference men's basketball game.

Austin Peay (4-4) led by 21 late in the first half, but Alabama A&M (0-8) rallied back after halftime, pulling to within four with about 10 minutes remaining in the game.

But the deficit was too much to overcome.

Turnovers and free-throw shooting hurt Alabama A&M's comeback bid. The Bulldogs turned the ball over 26 times and shot 56 percent from the foul line.

Jarrett Givens finished with 12 points for Austin Peay, and Steve Harris added 10.

Jalen Reeder led Alabama A&M with 18 points, while Arthur Johnson scored 16. Andre Kennedy added 13.
