Lady Bulldogs Fall to Alabama State, 55-44

HUNTSVILLE--- The Alabama A&M women's basketball team squared off with the Alabama State Lady Hornets on Saturday afternoon in the Maroon Out , dropping the game by a final score of 55-44 in Elmore Gym.

Alabama A&M opened the game up with a 9-2 run before the Lady Hornets clawed their way back with a 5-0 run of their own to take a 14-13 lead early in the second quarter. The teams would continue to trade points to tie the game at 15 before the Lady Bulldogs regained the lead and headed into halftime up, 26-21.  

In the third quarter, the Lady Hornets got a little bit of rhythm going as they outscored Alabama A&M 17-12 in the quarter. They continued to dominate offensively, holding the Lady Bulldogs to just six points in the final quarter as they managed to outlast Alabama A&M and take the game by a final score of 55-44.

Ashlyn Dotson led the way for the Lady Bulldogs with 15 points and three rebounds. Aubriana Bonner paced the defense with a team-high eight rebounds as well as three steals and two assists. The team forced 17 Lady Hornets turnovers.

The Lady Hornets' Tatyana Calhoun led the team with 14 points. Arleatha Gipson, Courtney Lee and Victoria Harvey each added eight points for Alabama State.

The loss drops the Lady Bulldogs down to 9-14 overall and 5-7 in the league. The squad will be back on the floor on Feb. 17, as they host Prairie View A&M.
