Baseball drops two at Mizzou

COLUMBIA, MO---The Alabama A&M University baseball team (3-6) could not get past Mizzou (7-3) this week, as the Tigers took two games with 7-3 and 14-0 victories at Taylor Stadium Tuesday and Wednesday.

GAME 1 –Mizzou 7, Alabama A&M 3
Tyus O'Neal-El led off the top of the first with a solo homer to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead. Mizzou tied the game in the bottom of the fifth, 1-1, as a bases-loaded walk allowed the Tigers to score. A sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth would allow Mizzou to take a 2-1 lead over the Bulldogs.

Mizzou's offense was active once more in the bottom of the sixth as three runs crossed home on two hits and one error.  

Dalton Mitchell added another run for Alabama A&M in the seventh when he scored on a throwing error by the catcher. Mizzou added their last two runs in that frame on bases-loaded walks, to make the score 7-2.

A solo home run from JT O'Reel made it 7-3 in the eighth before Mizzou retired the next three batters to secure the game one win.

Clayton Warner (1-1) took the loss, allowing three runs and four hits in five innings

Offensively, The Bulldogs totaled seven hits in the contest led by O'Reel's 2-for-4 effort with one run batted in.


GAME 2 - Mizzou 14, Alabama A&M 0
Mizzou took an early lead, scoring two runs in each of the first innings to take a 4-0 advantage.
 
The Tigers added to its lead with a big fourth inning.  Mizzou scored six runs in that frame, to make the score 10-0. 
 
The Bulldogs could not find an answer on this night, leading to the loss. 
 
Jonathan Smith II went two-for-three from the batter's box, to pace Alabama A&M in the defeat.
 
Alabama A&M's Quentin Alsbrooks took the loss, falling to 1-0.

UP NEXT
The Bulldogs host Jackson State this weekend in a three-game Southwestern Athletic Conference series. Friday and Saturday's game is set for 2 p.m. and Sunday's pitch is set for 1 p.m.
