Lady Bulldogs Fall to Prairie View in Doubleheader

In game one -- after Prairie View managed six hits without any runs in the first two innings -- the Lady Panthers (4-14, 2-1 SWAC) took advantage of a couple of miscues by the Lady Bulldogs defense to stirke first. Alyssa Garcia started the scoring with a RBI single that plated Destinee Williams, and Laurisa Hernandez followed suit to bring home pinch-runner Alexis Freeman.

In the sixth, Day'Zjah Pennywell put one out of the park for PVAMU to push their lead to 3-0, and Tamia-Lee Barbadillo returned the favor to put Alabama A&M on the board. The Lady Panthers pulled away in the seventh with an eight-run inning sparked by a Kylar Ward-Flowers two-run blast and subsequently  aided by three more Alabama A&M errors.

Hernandez and Pennywell each had three hits, and Kelsey Coronado led all players with four hits. D. Williams had two RBI and scored two runs.

Crystal Castillo got the win for Prairie View, surrendering six hits and striking out eight in a complete-game effort.

During game two, Prairie View's offense went to work early on, as Garcia blasted a three-run homer in the first inning to cap a 4-0 start to the game for the Lady Panthers. D. Williams and Ward-Flowers each picked up two-run singles in the second inning to add to the lead, and in the third inning, Amanda Ford scored on a wild pitch and D. Williams delivered a two-run single to left to make the game 11-0 after three.

Prairie View coasted from there, as Vanessa Castro threw a three-hit shutout to earn the win. D. Williams was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and five RBI.
