Softball Drops Doubleheader at Samford

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Alabama A&M dropped a mid-week double-header to Samford by scores of 6-3 and 9-1 during non-conference action Wednesday evening.

Samford 6, Alabama A&M 3
In game one, AAMU (9-11) was able to stay within striking distance of Samford through the first half of the contest as starter Imani Largin only allowed one run to Samford over the first three innings. However, Alabama A&M squandered a prime scoring chance in the second inning, drawing three walks to load the bases with one out. However, LaShayna Lee hit into a fielder's choice and Kia Lang flied out to end the threat.

Largin and the Lady Bulldogs managed to keep Samford from cashing in on a similar situation in the third, but Samford managed two runs in the fourth. Ariel Smith delivered a RBI double to score Tamia-Lee Barbadillo (2-4, 2 R) for AAMU's first run of the game in the top of the fifth, but Samford got back-to-back jacks from Kathryn Jackson (3-3, 2 RBI) and Whitney Hinton in its half of the frame.

Smith (2-4, 3 RBI) later blasted a two-run shot in the seventh for Alabama A&M, but the visitors were unable to put together any subsequent offense.

Samford 9, Alabama A&M 1 (F/5)
In game two, Alabama A&M was limited to just three hits, with its lone run coming via a solo home run from Barbadillo in the third inning that cut into Samford's lead to the tune of 2-1. However, Samford batted around in the fourth inning, scoring seven runs to ultimately put the game out of reach.

Four Samford players had two hits in the nightcap, and Ryan Brzozski led Samford with three RBI.
