Softball Dominates in 20-2 Win over Grambling State

GRAMBLING, La. – The Alabama A&M softball team put on an offensive clinic Friday afternoon, defeating Grambling State 20-2 in a Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) series opener at the Grambling State Softball Complex.
 
The Lady Bulldogs (10-11) got on top of the Lady Tigers early and often, scoring one run in the first inning and four runs in the fourth to take a 5-0 lead.
 
With two outs in the top of the sixth, Grambling State (8-13) surrendered a two-run homer by Tamia Lee-Barbadillo to grab a 7-0 lead, before a sacrifice fly and a fielding error in the bottom of the sixth, allowed the Lady Tigers to score two runs.
 
Up 7-2, the Lady Bulldogs rallied 13 runs on 11 hits in the seventh inning, which included four singles and three doubles, to secure the win.
 
Lauren Hayden (6-1) picked up the win for the Lady Bulldogs as she gave up two runs on five hits, with five strikeouts and two walks.
 
Offensively, Jamia Kirk went 4-for-5 to pace Alabama A&M. Tiana Sanders and Danielle Hansell both went 3-for-4. Seven Lady Bulldogs knocked in at least two runs.
 
 Grambling State finished with two runs on five hits and left seven on base.
 
Caitlin McDowell (6-5) took the loss in seven innings. She gave up 20 runs (four earned) on 20 hits, with three strikeouts and three walks.
