Baseball Drops Three at Samford

BIRMINGHAM--- The Alabama A&M baseball team (5-15, 2-4 SWAC) dropped all three games at Samford this weekend by the scores of 6-2, 3-2 and 9-2.

In the series opener, Alabama A&M fell 6-2 to Samford on Friday night, in which it could not overcome a big fourth inning for Samford.

Alabama A&M took the early lead.  Carson McGregory hit an RBI double in the third inning, to give AAMU the early 1-0 advantage.

Samford (10-11) answered with two runs of its own in the bottom of the frame, to take a 2-1 lead.

Alabama A&M tied the game in the sixth, when Brandon Moore knocked in an RBI single, to make the score 2-2.

Samford took the lead with four runs in the bottom of the inning, to make the score 6-2 which held as the final.

Clayton Warner took the loss on the mound, dropping 1-2 on the season. He allowed six runs on six hits, while striking out four and walking two.

Alabama A&M was not able to complete a comeback effort, in a 3-2 loss to Samford on Saturday.

AAMU fell behind 2-0 after Samford scored two runs in the first inning.  Samford added another run later in the third inning, to make it a three run contest.

AAMU started to mount a comeback in the sixth.  Carson McGregory scored AAMU's first run of the game to make the score 3-1.

Alabama A&M got another run closer in the eighth, when Dalton Mitchell scored on a throwing error by Samford to cut the lead to one.

AAMU was not able to complete the comeback, falling by one to Samford.

Jalen Pearson took the loss on the mound for AAMU, pitching seven innings. He allowed three runs on four hits, while walking five and striking out two.

In the series finale, Samford jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. Samford led 2-0 after first inning, before Tyus O'Neal-El and Moore across single runs in the second inning to tie the game at two.

Samford scored two runs in the top of the second inning, one in the fifth frame, three in the sixth inning and then used a homerun in the eighth to secure the 9-2 victory.

Alabama A&M's starting pitcher Jaret Britt was issued the loss Sunday. He allowed five runs (three earned) on 10 hits in the game and walked three.
