Baseball Goes 1-2 at Mississippi Valley State

ITTA BENA, Miss.- The Alabama A&M Baseball team went 1-2 over the weekend to Southwestern Athletic Conference opponent Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils in Itta Bena, MS.

Game One: MVSU 10, AAMU 5
The Bulldogs scored two runs in the opening inning which included a single from Carson McGregory to score Jonathan Smith II. A 2 RBI homer in the top of the fourth from Tyus O'Neal-El allowed AAMU to take an early 4-0 lead. The Delta Devils were held scoreless until they secured three runs in the fourth inning.

Mississippi Valley tied at four after a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth. The Delta Devils added two more runs in the fourth to take a 6-4 lead. Carlton Peppers answered for the Bulldogs in the top of the sixth with a sacrifice fly to center field to score McGregory.

Mississippi Valley responded in the bottom of the sixth with a two-run homer before closing the game out in the eighth inning with a two-run single.

Blaine Milam took the loss on the mound, pitching four innings and allowing five runs on five hits. Dustin Stewart earned the win for Mississippi Valley, as he pitched all nine innings.

Game Two: AAMU 8, AAMU 6
Alabama A&M took game two of the three game set with Mississippi Valley State, 8-6 on Saturday.

The Bulldogs got off to a good start, scoring four runs in the second to make the score 4-1 early.

The Delta Devils cut into the lead in the bottom of the third, scoring three runs in that frame, making the game a one run contest 5-4.

The Bulldogs gave itself a little more breathing room in the fourth, scoring one run.  AAMU later added another run in the top of the seventh, to make the score 7-4.

The Delta Devils tried to mount a comeback in the bottom of the seventh, scoring two runs and making the game a one-run affair.

The Bulldogs were able to hang on late in the game, to take the two run win.

Jalen Pearson earned the win for the Bulldogs, pitching seven innings.

McGregory was three for five from the batter's box, with one RBI and two runs scored in the win for Alabama A&M.

Game Three: MVSU 12, AAMU 7
In Game, Mississippi Valley State defeated the Bulldogs on Sunday, 12-7, to close out the three game series

The contest was close early on.  The Bulldogs scored two runs in top pf the second to take a 2-0 lead.  MVSU answered with two runs of its own in the bottom of the inning to even the score at 2-2.

Alabama A&M took the lead back in the fifth, scoring two runs in that frame and also added a run in the top of the sixth, to make the score 5-2.

MVSU scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth, to once again create a lead change, and make the score 6-5 in favor of the Delta Devils. MVSU would then score six runs over the next two innings, one in the seventh and five in the eighth to make the score 12-5. 

Alabama A&M scored two runs in the ninth, but the deficit was too great, as it could not complete the comeback, resulting in the loss.

Jaret Britt took the loss on the mound, pitching six innings while allowing six runs on eight hits and striking out five.

The Bulldogs continue play on Tuesday, March 27 when they travel to Florence, AL to face North Alabama. The first pitch is set for 5 p.m.
