FLORENCE, Al. – The Alabama A&M University baseball team clawed back from a ten-run deficit in the top of the eighth inning, but the comeback attempt ultimately fell short as the Bulldogs went down to the University of North Alabama, 13-10, at Mike D. Lane Field on Tuesday evening.
North Alabama (19-11) led off with a one-run triple to centerfield in the first inning. The Bulldogs (6-19) were held scoreless until Carson McGregory homered in the fourth inning to take a 2-1 lead. With two outs in the fourth, Tyus O'Neal-El homered to left center to add another Bulldogs run.
UNA tied the game at 3-3 in the sixth inning with a home run, before plating 10 runs in the seventh inning to take a 13-3 lead over AAMU.
The Bulldogs clawed back into the game in the top of eighth with seven runs, which included six singles to cut the deficit to 13-10.
Jonathan Cook notched the win for UNA, allowing no runs and striking out three, while Channing Wall received the save for the Lions allowing no runs with one strikeout. Blaine Milam received the loss, allowing seven runs on six hits and striking out one.
The Bulldogs will host the Alcorn State Braves in a three-game series starting Thursday, March 29. First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m.
