HUNTSVILLE- The Lady Bulldogs swept Robert Morris in a Wednesday afternoon doubleheader; winning the opener 7-1, before taking the finale 11-1 in five innings.
Game 1: AAMU 7, RMU 1
Robert Morris scored their single run in the top half of the first inning as their leadoff hitter singled to second base to score the runner at third, giving them a quick 1-0 lead.
Alabama A&M tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom half of the first inning when Tamia Lee-Barbadillo scored on a Tiana Sanders' single to left field.
The Lady Bulldogs took the lead in the bottom of the first inning, as they put up a four-spot to take a 5-1 lead.
With one out and one on base, Sanders homered to left field to give the Lady Bulldogs a 7-1 lead and the victory as both teams remained scoreless in the remaining innings.
AAMU, who outhit Robert Morris, 8-4, was paced at the plate by Sanders, who went 3-for-3, including a home run and 3 runs batted in, while Alexis Bates added two hits.
Game 2: AAMU 11, RMU 1
In game 2, the Lady Bulldogs gained an 11-1 run rule win against the Eagles.
In a game that featured mostly singles and doubles, AAMU managed to score two in the first inning and two in the bottom of the fourth. That, coupled with six runs in the third, was enough to bring the win after five innings.
Rachel Sanders got the win for the Lady Bulldogs tossing the entire game, while allowing three hits, one run and striking out eight.
The Lady Bulldogs will hit the road this weekend as they travel to Acworth, GA to participate in the HBCU Softball Tournament, March 10 and March 11.
