Softball Drops Doubleheader at Austin Peay

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Alabama A&M University Lady Bulldogs softball team (19-17) dropped two narrow contests at Austin Peay State during a mid-week doubleheader. The Lady Bulldogs fell 1-0 in game one and 3-2 in the nightcap.

Game One: Austin Peay State 1, Alabama A&M 0
Game one saw both sides held in check, as Imani Largin and Austin Peay's Kelly Mardones threw scoreless frames through the first five innings, allowing a combined five hits between them.

The Lady Governors' lone run came in the seventh, as Kacy Acree (2-for-4) hit a walk-off RBI single with two outs.

Largin was the hard luck loser, allowing six hits in 6.2 innings. Kia Lang, Danielle Hansell and Jamia Kirk had one hit each for AAMU.

Game Two: Austin Peay State 3, Alabama A&M 2
In game two, Tiana Sanders powered the Lady Bulldogs to an early advantage, belting a RBI double to score Tamia Lee-Barbadillo -- who led off with a double -- in the first inning. Sanders hit a RBI single in the third as well.

APSU manufactured its first run in the fifth, and won it in its final at-bat as Acree delivered a RBI sac fly to tie it, and Bailey Shorter won it for the Lady Govs with a walk-off RBI single.

Barbadillo was 3-for-3. Lauren Hayden got the loss, throwing 6.2 innings and scattering seven hits and three runs -- one earned -- while fanning five.
