Women's Soccer tops Jackson State to open SWAC schedule

Box Score JACKSON, Miss. — Ayanna Gooden and Valery Mastache-Gomez each scored a goal as Alabama A&M topped Jackson State 2-1 Friday afternoon to open the SWAC women's soccer schedule.

Jodi Medina recorded one save for Alabama A&M (1-6-1) in goal.

Alabama A&M never trailed.

Gooden struck first for Alabama A&M by scoring an unassisted goal early in the second half.

Mastache-Gomez gave Alabama A&M a 2-0 cushion with about three minutes remaining in the contest when she took an assist from Gooden on the far right of the field and put the ball into the back of the net.

Jalah Carter scored the lone goal for Jackson State (0-7) in the final minutes of the contest.

Alabama A&M attempted eight shots in the contest. Six of those were shots on goal. Jackson State attempted nine shots, but only two were shots on goal.

Alabama A&M continues SWAC play on Sunday when the Bulldogs travel to Southern.
