Women's Soccer rallies past Mississippi Valley, remains perfect in SWAC

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Walking off the field, Emanuel Stephens nodded his head in approval.

For good reason, too.

Two weeks of conference play are in the books, and Stephens' Alabama A&M women's soccer team is perfect.

Khadian Wright-Brown scored two goals as Alabama A&M rallied past Mississippi Valley State 5-2 Sunday afternoon in a SWAC contest.

Since SWAC play began two weeks ago, Alabama A&M (4-6-1) has won four consecutive matches.

Alabama A&M used a second-half surge to top Mississippi Valley (3-6-2).

Laadi Issaka scored a goal in the final minutes of the first half to tie the score, and Mississippi Valley appeared to have momentum on its side heading into halftime.

But the momentum swing did not last long.

Lauren Saunders scored on an assist from Iris Torres in the opening minutes of the second half, and Wright-Brown added a pair of goals a few minutes later.

Nia Thompson and Alaysha Russell each scored a goal for Alabama A&M. Torres and Ayanna Gooden each had an assist.

Jodi Medina had three saves in goal for Alabama A&M.

Alabama A&M attempted 18 shots, with nine shots on goal. Myisha Butts finished with four saves for Mississippi Valley.

Alabama A&M travels to Texas Southern on Friday for a SWAC contest.
