Women's Soccer Continue SWAC Play This Weekend as they Face Off Against Mississippi Valley and Alcorn

Mississippi Valley State – Friday, Oct. 11, 6 p.m.

Itta Bena, Miss. __ Alabama A&M soccer continues play this weekend as they head west to face Mississippi Valley State and Alcorn State in a pair of SWAC East matches.

 ALABAMA A&M NOTES
  • The Lady Bulldogs are 5-6-1 for the season with a 3-1 record in the SWAC, their best record so far through 12 games on a year under the helm of Coach Stephens.
  • The squad also has two nonconference wins on the year, as they defeated North Alabama (2-1) and Alabama-Huntsville (2-1) earlier in season.
  • Makayla Rushing leads the team in scoring, while also placing top-three in the conference for total goals (5) and goals per game (0.50).
  • D'Essence Burnett is shooting fifty percent on shots on goal in 2019 (9-18) to place third among SWAC peers in that category
  • Goalkeeper Jodi Medina is top-35 in the NCAA with 62 total saves.
  • Alabama A&M is currently on a one game win streak. Over the 18 games played in the series, the Lady Bulldogs lead 17-1, with the lone loss being a 1-3 game at Alcorn State in 2017.
 
MISSISSIPPI VALLEY NOTES
  • Mississippi Valley State is currently 1-7-1 overall and 0-3 in the conference
  • The Delta Devils have been outscored 32-7 on the season, however are hitting over half of their shots on goal (58.1 percent).
  • Beatriz Kretteis leads the team in points so far with seven, including three goals and an assist on the year.
  • Shay McCool has accounted for five points of her own, including a goal and three assists.
  • Goalkeeper McKenzie McCarthy has started all nine games for Mississippi Valley, playing just under 830 minutes and has a total of 114 saves and a 78 percent save percentage.

ALCORN STATE NOTES 
  • Alcorn State ranks second in the NCAA with 12.10 saves per game while placing seventh nationally with a shot accuracy percentage of .571 on 21 attempts.
  • Senior Giselle Rojas recently became the all-time program saves leader with 175 for her career, while freshman Kali Helms is currently sixth on the list for the school record of most saves in a single season with 84 during her nine matches played.
  • Helms' 84 saves places her fifth in the country for total saves and second in the SWAC.
  • Senior Christina Grybos has a goal on the season with junior Mireya Gonzalez notching the lone assist.
  • Gonzalez and senior Anjelica Dugan both top the team with three shots on goal each while Grybos, sophomore Sarah Joy-Romain, senior Gemma Dunn, and sophomore Paula Solé Cabeza all have one apiece.

UP NEXT
Following this weekend, the Lady Bulldogs will return home for the final four game stretch of the regular season, all being at Bulldog Field starting on Friday, Oct. 18 against rival Alabama State at 3 p.m.
