Torres scores three goals, Alabama A&M tops Alcorn State

LORMAN, Miss. — Iris Torres put an exclamation point on a perfect weekend.

Torres scored three second-half goals as Alabama A&M topped Alcorn State 3-0 Sunday afternoon, completing a weekend road swing with a pair of Southwestern Athletic Conference women's soccer wins.

Alabama A&M (7-6-1, 5-1 in SWAC) defeated Mississippi Valley State 5-2 on Friday.

The wins give Alabama A&M sole possession of second place in the SWAC standings — one game behind Howard.

Against Alcorn State, Torres broke a scoreless tie early in the second half when she scored an unassisted goal at the 52:31 mark.

A few minutes later, Torres struck again, scoring a goal on a Makayla Rushing assist.

Torres' final goal came at the 79:55 mark on a penalty kick.

Alcorn State (0-12, 0-6) only attempted one shot in the match, and the Braves had no shots on goal.

The seven wins by the Lady Bulldogs is not only the most under head coach Emanuel Stephens, it is the most in a season since 2008. Alabama A&M hosts Prairie View A&M on Friday.
