Lady Bulldog Soccer Finish 1-1 in Homecoming Weekend Matches

Alabama A&M Defeated Southern 3-0 Before Falling to Jackson State 1-3

| Box Score 2 HUNTSVILLE, Ala.— Alabama A&M opened the weekend with a shutout, but suffered their first loss in conference play with a 3-1 defeat against Jackson State on Sunday afternoon at home.

The Lady Tigers jumped ahead quickly in the first half with a goal by Megan Howell in the 9th minute for an early 1-0 lead. The rest of the first half saw no scoring, with Alabama A&M outshooting Jackson State 7-3.

In the second half, Makayla Rushing provided the equalizer for the Bulldogs with a goal off an assist by Khadijah Shakirof to tie the match at 1-1. However, Jackson State struck again just three minutes later when Sage Magruder lobbed a shot over the goalie's head and into the back of the net for a 2-1 Jackson State lead. Jackson State. The Lady Tigers added on late in the match with a final goal by Jalah Carter at the 79th minute to expand the lead. The Lady Tigers would hold on to win by a score of 3-1.

Despite the goal differential, Alabama A&M outshot Jackson State 16-7. However, Jackson State made use of their opportunities, putting five shots on goal compared to Alabama A&M's four.

Alabama A&M falls to 5-6-1 (3-1), while Jackson State earns its first win of the season to improve to 1-10 (1-2).

AAMU 3, Southern 0

Alabama A&M started the homecoming weekend off by shutting out conference foe Southern 3-0 on Friday afternoon.

The first half began with an early goal by D'Essence Burnett, assisted by Ayanna Gooden, to put the Bulldogs ahead 1-0.

The second half saw more success for the Bulldogs. In the 76th minute, Makayla Rushing scored a goal that was assisted by Khadijah Shakirof to double the score at 2-0. Just three minutes later, D'Essence Burnett scored her second goal of the match with an assist by Jada Ward. The Lady Jaguars could not respond, and Alabama A&M won 3-0.

Alabama A&M moved to 5-5-1 (3-0), while Southern fell to 1-7 (0-2).

The Bulldogs have a two-game conference road trip, first against the Devillettes of Mississippi Valley State on Friday, October 11, and then traveling to Alcorn State on Sunday, October 13. The next home game will be against Prarie View A&M University on Friday, October 18.
