Bulldogs Fall to In-State Opponent Blazers

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. __ Freshmen guards Cameron Alford and Garrett Hicks led the Bulldogs in scoring with 14 and 12 points respectively to lead all Alabama A&M players in an in-state battle between the Bulldogs and Blazers at Bartow Arena.

After both teams came out strong in the first few minutes, UAB used their 54 percent shooting mark in the first half to go into the locker room leading 32-25. The Bulldogs struggled from outside the arc early, missing 13 of 14 from three in the first half.
 
The Bulldogs again had struggles taking care of the ball, totaling 15 turnovers tonight, giving up 20 points off turnovers, however also forced the Blazers into 15 of their own and scored 11 points off of their miscues.
 
Sophomore guard Tavin Lovan led the way for UAB with 21 points and six rebounds, hitting eight of nine shots from the field, and five of seven from free throw line. Freshman Jalen Benjamin added 19 points and seven rebounds, while Kassim Nicholson finished with a near double-double with ten points and nine rebounds.

  • Turnovers: Both teams committed 15 turnovers, with A&M surrendering 20 points off their miscues, and UAB allowing 11 points off of their turnovers.
  • Bench points: The Blazers bench outscored the Bulldogs bench 27-8. Freshman Jalen Benjamin led all scorers off the bench with 19 points.
  • TJ Parham and EJ Williams were the next highest scorers, with Parham scoring nine to go with four rebounds, while Williams added seven points of his own.
